The Certificate in Engineering Studies is an intense undergraduate credential that requires courses in the areas of chemistry, computer programming, communications, engineering design, math, and physics.
This credential meets the British Columbia Common First-Year Engineering Agreement, preparing students to apply for transfer into second-year engineering programs at designated receiving institutions across the province. Within BC, the terms and conditions of transfer into second year vary. For example, second-year admission to BC engineering schools may be guaranteed or competitive while program placement at second year is typically competitive.
NLC students are responsible for confirming transfer arrangements at their chosen degree-granting institutions.
NLC’s Certificate in Engineering Studies aligns with the BC Common First-Year Engineering Agreement and will provide full, seamless second-year transfer to engineering programs throughout BC.

The Certificate in Engineering Studies provides a post-secondary pathway to a career as an engineer by allowing for further study at engineering schools throughout British Columbia. Intakes

44 credits (975 hours), minimum. This is a one year program taken over two semesters with minimum of 21 credits per semester. Part-time studies will take longer. Students in this program select course loads and course schedules that fit their needs and course availability. Registration is completed semester-by-semester. Most receiving institutions require all courses to be completed within two semesters of full-time study in a single academic year. However, the University of Victoria will accept part-time study that is spread over two academic years. Estimated Program Fees

English Requirement For applicants whose first language is English, one of the following: - English Studies 12 with a B grade or higher
- ENGL 050 with a B grade or higher
For applicants whose first language is not English, one of the following: Chemistry Requirement* One of the following: - Chemistry 12 with a C+ grade or higher, or equivalent
- CHEM 050 with a C+ grade or higher, or equivalent
Math Requirement** - Pre-Calculus 12 with a B grade or higher, or equivalent
Physics Requirement One of the following: - Physics 12 with a C+ grade or higher, or equivalent
- PHYS 050 with a C+ grade or higher, or equivalent
Notes * Outstanding applicants who are missing Chemistry 12 or the equivalent are encouraged to apply and will be reviewed on a case by case basis. ** Where available, Calculus 12 and Programming 12 are recommended. Important Notes

The program is eligible for Canada Student Loans. Visit StudentAid BC to apply for financial assistance online. Note that dual credit students are not eligible for Student Aid. -
Student must provide an engineering or scientific calculator. Students are required to have a computer (laptop or other mobile device) with minimum computer requirements. -
This program is affiliated with the Common-First-Year Engineering Agreement. Participants include the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), the University of British Columbia (Okanagan), the University of Victoria, the University of Northern British Columbia, and Thompson Rivers University.
