English as a Second Language

The English as a Second Language program provides Second Language students a pathway to academic success in post-secondary programming. The program is delivered by highly trained EASL instructors in small classes that focus on inclusion and community. By completing this program, students will meet the English entrance requirements for a variety of post-secondary programs at Northern Lights College and will enhance their communications skills for employment.

Career Prospects
The purpose of the EASL program is to gain entry to post-secondary and other programming. Improved English skills will also serve to increase employability across many sectors.

Length
300 hours per level (exception of level 5 at 288 hours); a typical learner can complete one level per semester.

Admission Requirements
EASL 020
- CaMLA EPT result with a test score of 25-26 or permission of instructor for scores under 25
EASL 030 either
- Mastery of EASL 020
OR
- CaMLA EPT result 27-40
EASL 040 either
- Mastery of EASL 030
OR
- CaMLA EPT result 41-50
EASL 050 either
- Mastery of EASL 040
OR
- CaMLA EPT result 51-61
EASL 060 either
- Mastery of EASL 050

- CaMLA EPT result 62 or higher
Important Notes
- The program is not eligible for Canada Student Loans, however fees and textbook funding may be available through the Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG).
